The Public Limited Company for Radioactive Waste Management (PURAM) organized geological research for the design of a research trench in the area of the village of Cserdi. The main goal of the campaign was to clarify the tectonic structure along the northeastern-southwestern Hetvehely–Magyarszék line and to examine the younger Quaternary (Pleistocene-Holocene) and/or Pannonian sedimentary layers covering the zone.

Examples include studies that can help determine the location for a well in a family home’s garden. A homeowner looking for a cost-effective solution for garden irrigation or drinking water supply does not simply drill "somewhere in the garden" but makes an informed decision in designating the drilling location. This is especially true if the garden lies in a geologically complex area.
